Tips and tricks for cleaning your camera sensor:
- Debris on the sensor is easily detectable, it appears as gray dots, especially in light parts of the frame and are even more visible with narrow aperture e.g. F16, F22. Taking a picture like this after cleaning is useful to verify the quality of your work and see if you need to repeat the process.
- With just a little debris like fine specks of dust using a "cleaning mode" included in most cameras can be enough to get rid of the problem.
- It's important to choose a place that's as dust-free as possible and be shielded from wind while exposing and cleaning the sensor.
- Get rid of loose debris with an air blower before using a cotton swab to prevent smudging the dirt around.
- All cotton swabs are single use, they can be used dry or with 1-2 drops of a lens cleaning solution. Be careful and do not touch the swab before cleaning.
- For a mirrorless camera - the device should be turned off. Reflex cameras have to be fully charged as they are on during the process. Select "manual sensor cleaning mode" and proceed, when you're done just turn off the camera - it should exit the cleaning mode automatically.
